FEMA’s National Integration Center (NIC) is seeking public feedback on the refreshed National Incident Management System (NIMS) Basic Guidance for Public Information Officers (PIOs) released on September 12, 2019. The NIMS Basic Guidance for PIOs provides operational practices to help PIOs perform their duties within the NIMS Command and Coordination structures. The working draft is now updated to ensure it is consistent with the NIMS refresh, to incorporate stakeholder input, and to make it a clearer and a more useful tool for PIOs as they are involved in emergency management activities. Specifically, the revisions ensure a broader scope, to include digital engagement and social media protocols as well as further explanation of the PIO role within the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), Joint Information Center (JIC) and Multiagency Coordination (MAC) Group Command and Coordination structures. The National Engagement Period will conclude at 5:00 p.m. EST on October 15, 2019.

FEMA is hosting three, 60-minute informational webinars to highlight key proposed changes to the NIMS Basic Guidance for PIOs, provide information on submitting feedback, and answer participant questions. All webinars are open to the whole community, including individuals and communities, the private and nonprofit sectors, faith-based organizations, and all levels of government.

Each webinar will cover the same information, so please choose the session most convenient for you.
