PREPARING FOR A NATIONAL CATASTROPHIC EVENT Wednesday, November 29, 2017 6:00:00 PM UTC - Tuesday, January 30, 2018 7:45:00 PM UTC
This U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) webinar will provide an overview that shows how the nations Fire and Emergency Service community could have limited capacity and capability to maintain and administer a sustained response to a catastrophic event. Without the involvement of a national fire and emergency service response outside local/state mutual aid agreements or processes to include the direct support of the Federal government, a catastrophic event could quickly turn to an uncontrollable disastrous event. This USFA webinar will discuss some of the challenging issues faced by fire and emergency service leadership, in addition to explaining: • The unique characteristics of a National catastrophic event. • Why it is necessary to explore extreme planning considerations that are beyond a State, local, tribal and territorial response, for catastrophic events. • The need to assess your capabilities and catalog your assets, using free FEMA-sponsored on-line systems, and the importance of verifying supplemental capabilities and resources. • The USFA’s pending survey and database collection process. Speaker Thomas Murray Tom enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1977 as a fire protection specialist; he attended tech school at Chanute AFB IL. After retiring in 1998, he went to work for Dauphin County EMA, and then transferred to Pennsylvania EMA. In August 2008, he moved on to FEMA Region III until January 2017, where he now works with the U.S. Fire Administration, with a focus on Federal Operations and Emergency Support functions.
